OCTOBER 2020 NEWSLETTER

group picture

We are a family organization based in the metropolitan Milwaukee Area. We have been in existence since 1983 and we are one of the larger GWRRA chapter in the state of Wisconsin. Besides our love of Gold Wings, we love to have fun.  You will commonly see our members riding together and doing non-motorcycling events.  We enjoy meeting new people and we accept new members with open arms.  If you have a technical question, most likely someone in our group will be able to assist.  Our activities include safety fairs, weekend camping/hotel trips, winter getaways to fight those winter non-biking blues, fundraisers, dinner rides, and the list goes on and on.  If you happen to be in the neighborhood on a social night, stop in, we’d love to see you.

FROM THE DIRECTORS:

OCTOBER ALREADY! Even this summer of cancellations seems to have flown bye.                Fortunately, October almost always has lots of nice days for riding and the fall colors are usually beautiful. It’s starting to sound like we may even have a Badger football season to cheer about. That would be a great morale booster for many of us.                                      Our breakfast and dinner rides are set. Barring some kind of return to total lock down, we should have a great time at both destinations.                                                                            Our October social, on the 25th this year, is when we will finish our annual Circle Tour. We’ll pick cards and award the cash prizes to the winners. If anyone still needs to get the locations and questions for this year’s tour let us know ASAP so we can email them to you.                                                                                                                                                                   Hoping all of our members remain healthy and happy.

FROM THE DIRECTORS:

Happy September everyone. We certainly hope this month finds everyone healthy and happy.    Since concerns over the Wuhan virus continue to plague us, far longer than almost anyone expected, we’re still uncertain what will or won’t be happening. We’re continuing to try to be creative in how we handle planning for our  chapter.                                                                              It appears unlikely that we’ll be able to meet at the WaterStone bank for our Sept. social so we’ll let everyone know via email where and when we’ll have it. We had a very pleasant August social at Grant Park. The weather was perfect, the lake was beautiful, and as always the company was great. Obviously, once fall and winter arrive we’ll have to find some indoor venue for our get togethers. We’re working on that already now.                                                                                         We’ve also had to make changes to many of our previously announced plans. For instance, our Oct. ROMEO breakfast ride was scheduled for Cranky Al’s. Unfortunately, they are so small they don’t allow dining in, so we’ve changed our breakfast location to the Oak Creek Diner. That location was chosen because it was originally planned for the spring when all restaurants were closed and had to be cancelled.                                                                                                           2020 has become a year we’ll always remember as a year we’d probably like to forget. We can only hope and pray that 2021 turns out to be better for all of us.                                                        As always we wish you safe riding and happy and health lining.                                                           Rich & Sharon Winkler – Chapter G directors

FROM THE DIRECTORS:                                                                                                                          During this year of the plague it is becoming harder and more frustrating to write a newsletter with anything positive to report. Cancellations and totally changed plans are the order of the day.                                                                                                                                                              The latest victim of the summer of cancellations is our annual Corn Roast/Picnic. Milwaukee county has closed all but a few parks to large picnics and has cancelled all reservations. Even in those few parks still open to picnics the restrictions make it virtually impossible to actually have one.                                                                                                                                                               Also our usual venue for socials remains closed to meetings, so we’re continuing to “play it by ear”.   Fortunately, our lunch and dinner rides are outside the city of Milwaukee and, at least for now, remain open for use. Our breakfast ride location for August is in the city of Milwaukee, so masks will be required when not eating, but the others are still available.  There’s no way to know when things will get better, so all we can do is keep on doing what we can and try to stay in touch with each other and enjoy each other’s company when and where it’s allowed.  Stay well and keep on keeping on.

FROM THE DIRECTORS:

While the lockdowns we went through all spring have definitely started to loosen, we’re still seeing the effects of the virus. It seems that most summer events have been cancelled and even fall events are in doubt. As we’ve had to do for the last several months we’ll just continue to play it by ear, and proceed with whatever scheduled events we can. We’re also going to try to be a little creative with our solutions to problems.            One example of that creativity is what we did for the June Dinner ride. We couldn’t hold it at the restaurant where is was originally scheduled, so instead we met at the Whitnall Park beer garden and had a great time.                                                                                                Fortunately, we know we can have our July breakfast and dinner rides at the planned restaurants. Both the Country Rose in Racine county and the Mineshaft in Hartford are open for dining in and we’ll be able to have our rides to these fine establishments as planned. We’re really looking forward to a return to something resembling normalcy.       Unfortunately, we can’t say that about our usual meeting place for our socials. WaterStone bank is being extremely cautious right now. We had to cancel our June social because they won’t allow us to use the community room. It’s unknown when, if ever, we’ll be able to use it in the future. Only time will tell. We are quite sure our annual Corn Roast/Picnic in August will be able to go on. Milwaukee county parks are all open again so our reservation should be good. Looking forward to seeing fellow bikers from other chapters again, as we have in several previous years.                                                       As far as we know all our Chapter G members have stayed healthy throughout this whole ordeal, and we hope and pray it continues that way. We’d love to see you all at our upcoming events.

 FROM THE DIRECTORS:

We were really optimistic when writing the May newsletter that things would be returning to normal by June. BOY, WERE WE WRONG. There won’t be any optimism this month. Lots of hope that things will improve by the end of the month, but we’re not expecting many of our planned activities for June to actually take place.                                  There is the positive point that most official lockdowns are ending and there are plans for a gradual return to doing things we haven’t been able to do for months now. However, it certainly appears that a return to anything resembling “normal” is somewhere in the future. At this point, no one knows when.                                                        As can be seen in the “June Events” section above it seems unlikely our breakfast and dinner rides will take place and both the chapter and district events planned for later in the month have already been cancelled. About the only June event which appears to have much chance of happening is the Social on the 26th. That, of course is also dependent on what meeting rules the city of Oak Creek has in place by then. As has been the case for several months now, we won’t know what we can do until the “powers that be” tell us what they will allow.  In the meantime, stay well, try to keep from going stir crazy, and know that we’re thinking of you and wishing you well.                                          We will be sending out the information on the 2020 Chapter G Circle Tour very soon, so the members can have places to go where “social distancing” isn’t a problem now that the weather is finally good.                                                                                                                  Rich & Sharon Winkler – Chapter G directors
