 From the Director:

Unfortunately, we have to begin this month’s director’s entry with some very sad news. Our friend and fellow chapter G member Willy Risser was diagnosed with liver cancer and was placed in hospice care. Willy lost his fight with cancer, and passed away at 9:30 Friday April 22. Willy’s funeral was on Thurs. April 28 at the Heritage Funeral Home on S. 84th St. in Milwaukee. We are keeping his family in our thoughts and prayers. Per the family’s request the chapter made a memorial donation to the Zilber Hospice.

 On a happier note:

Happy Mother’s Day all you fantastic Chapter G Moms!

Honest to goodness riding weather is finally here!

While we were blessed with a few days of gorgeous weather in April, and I’m sure everybody put a few miles on their bikes, we’re finally into what really passes for Spring in Wisconsin.

I find it harder and harder to be a mature adult and do all the chores and the things on the honey-do list. Instead, I find myself giving in to the temptation to be a kid and hop on the bike and have fun. Fortunately, Sharon has the same problem, so we both end up going out to play when the grand spring weather finally arrives with regularity.

We did have some fun as a group in April, with a nice breakfast at Miss Katy’s Diner on the 13th  and some excellent food and fellowship at The Valley Inn on the 20th, once we all finally found the place. Located at 40th and Clybourn in “Pigsville”, it sure is off the beaten path, but we all agreed that it was worth the effort to find it.

We got quite a bit of information on upcoming rides at the April social. It’s starting to look like we’re going to have a really active and fun summer in 2016. Please go to the chapter website and check the calendar regularly. The calendar will be updated as often as a new event is set up by one of our group.

One of our most important events of the summer is coming in June. Originally scheduled for Saturday June 11, our chapter fundraiser in conjunction with the Sportalnd 2 Open House/Bike show, has now been moved to Saturday June 25, due to a conflict with the bike event at Road America, which drew all the vendors who also attend the Sportland 2 event.

Much more information on the event will be coming in the near future.

Hoping everyone will have a great month of spring time riding.

KEEP THE SHINEY SIDE UP AND THE DIRTY SIDE DOWN.

From The Director:

WOW, it’s April already.

Even here in SE Wisconsin it’s the beginning of the riding season. OK, so you have to dress really warmly (or wear heated clothes if you have any), but we’re a hearty bunch, and our riding season is so short we have to do it when we can.

March was a good month for Chapter G. We had our annual Winter Get-Away on the 4th through the 6th. We moved it to Baraboo this year, and everyone seemed to be quite happy with the new location. The Best Western Baraboo Inn was a nice place and the staff couldn’t have been any more helpful and friendly.

Christen Harding had a great day planned for us on Saturday. We toured a new winery and a new distillery. (Do you sense a minor theme here??) However, the highlight of the day for many of us was a tour of the beautifully refurbished Al Ringling Theater right on the square in downtown Baraboo.

IMG_1312IMG_1304       IMG_1311

We also had a nice lunch at “The Barn” outside of town, which had good food and equally good beer (there’s that theme again).

IMG_1316

We really want to thank Christen again for the great job she does every year finding interesting and cool things for us to do in the area. She outdid herself this year.

Since we can at least hope for some nice warm days starting this month we need to make sure the bikes are in good condition so we can have a trouble free start to the riding season (they’re Gold Wings though, so that’s not real hard to do). If the spring weather continues to be warmer than usual May should really get us out on the road.

Looking well forward into June, please take note that the chapter fund raiser, which will again be in conjunction with the Sportland2 Openhouse and bike show, originally scheduled for Saturday 6/11, has been moved to Saturday 6/25. It seems that Road America has scheduled their event for the 11th and, not surprisingly, the venders all plan to be there that weekend. Who knows, maybe with the event scheduled later in June it will be warmer and we’ll sell more brats and soda.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at one or more of our events this month and many times all year long.

 From The Director:

In some parts of the country March is the start of spring. Unfortunately, here in Wisconsin it’s still pretty much winter. That’s why our “Winter Get-away” is this month. It is from Friday the 4th through Sunday the 6th. We’re looking forward to a great time at out new location at the Best Western Baraboo Inn. It’s one of the most enjoyable and fun events we have each year.                       While March is usually still quite cold and wintery, it sometimes has nice days which remind us that spring is getting closer, and there is a light at the end of the winter tunnel. I imagine everyone is as tired of winter, and not being able to ride, as we are. It’s also a good month to get started on the little jobs that will have the bike ready for when it’s actually nice enough to ride regularly. We had a great time and, as always, the food was very good at our February dinner ride to That’s Amore’.                                                                                                                                                Our February social, which included seminars,

a chili dump lunch,

and the regular social (with a presentation by Mr. T J Oman about the “Viper Ride”, which will be a ride for visually impaired veterans) gave us lots of things to think about and some ideas on which to follow up.

20160228_143728_resized

As noted above we’ll have our monthly breakfast and dinner “rides” in March and our social will be the second last Sunday of the month (not the last Sunday) at the WaterStone bank.                                                                                                                                                                       Several members have said they’re working on plans for rides this summer, including rides to The House on the Rock, the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa Iowa, and the “Pizza Farm” in Athens WI. There will be specific information coming at future socials and in future newsletters.                                                                                                                                                              At the April social Sharon and I will be presenting the information on the 2016 Circle Tour. It is starting to look like a busy and fun summer. Keep a good thought, and just hold on, we’ll be riding again soon.

 From The Director:

January is history, and old man winter is truly and sincerely settled in. We were pretty much spoiled by December. Some of us even got to ride a couple times, but January definitely brought us back to reality. At least we’re another month closer to the return of riding season. That’s always something to dream about these cold winter nights.

We’re back in the swing of chapter events again, with a ROMEO breakfast ride on the 10th and a dinner ride to That’s Amore’ on the 17th.

The biggest event this month will take place on Sunday Feb. 28. We will, of course, have our monthly social then, but the social will be preceded by two informative presentations and, what seems to becoming a February tradition, a chili dump lunch.

The first talk will be by Dr. Mike LaBlanc, a Chiropractor/Nutritional Counselor in Elm Grove. He will have a presentation titled “How To Stay Young Your First 100 Years”. It’s a power point that talks about how to take better care of our backs and necks, so that we keep our mobility, especially as we get older. Since most of us are no longer “spring chickens” this seems like a very appropriate topic for our chapter. Dr. Mike says, “I treat quite a few riders, and they appreciate that my treatments keep them riding”.

After Dr. Mike’s presentation we’ll have our delicious chili dump lunch. Following that Bob Schattschneider will give a short seminar titled “HIGH SIDE CRASHES”. We expect to start the regular social about 3:00 as usual.

For the chili dump, we ask that everyone bring a quart of your favorite chili recipe to go into the “dump”. We’ll also have extra things we’ll need such as onions, cheese, bread, butter, oyster crackers, and a couple desserts. We’ll make a pot (or more) of coffee, but if you want soda be sure to bring it with you or bring some $1bills so you can buy it from the machine in the hall.  We certainly hope many members will join us for this excellent opportunity to get very helpful information on motorcycle safety, but also on important health issues that affect us all.

Finally, on this very busy Sunday, during the regular social we’ll see a presentation from Mr. TJ Oman, who is the founder of an organization which is planning a motorcycle event for blind and visually impaired veterans. His organization is named VIPER Ride. It’s intended to give visually impaired vets a chance to experience the fun of riding on a motorcycle. He’ll be explaining how the event will work and how we as bikers and even non-bikers can give back to our vets. Later this month I’ll be forwarding the email note I received from TJ which gives some of the basics of the event.

One of the chapter’s most popular outings comes the weekend after the February social. Friday March 4 – Sunday March 6 is our annual Winter Get-Away. For many years we’ve held it in Wisconsin Dells, but this year we decided to try someplace new. It will be at the Best Western Baraboo Inn located at 725 W. Pine St. in Baraboo. We have a block of rooms set aside with a special group rate, but you must reserve by Feb. 4 to be sure to get the group rate and be with the rest of us. The number is: 608-356-1100. Be sure to tell them you’re with Chapter G.

This has become one of our member’s favorite chapter outings. It gives us a chance to spend some quality time with each other and have some great fun.

The motel has just finished an extensive remodeling effort. The area where the free hot breakfast is served is brand new, the rooms are all recently updated, and it has a very nice (and spotlessly clean) pool and hot tub. We’re also renting a conference (read PARTY) room. We’re hopeful that everyone will enjoy this new venue and have a great time.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all at all of our upcoming events. Be safe and stay warm.

January 2016

We are a family organization based in the metropolitan Milwaukee Area. We have been in existence since 1983 and we are the largest GWRRA chapter in the state of Wisconsin. Besides our love of Gold Wings, we love to have fun. You will commonly see our members riding together and doing non-motorcycling events. We enjoy meeting new people and we accept new members with open arms. If you have a technical question, most likely someone in our group will be able to assist. Our activities range from safety fairs, weekend camping/hotel trips, winter getaways to fight those winter non-biking blues, hockey games, fundraisers, dinner rides, and the list goes on and on. So, put down the kickstand and take a ride through our pages. If you happen to be in the neighborhood on a social night, stop in, we’d love to see you.

From The Director:

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016

Hope you all had a great holiday season, with a blessed Christmas and an enjoyable New Year’s celebration.

It’s amazing how fast 2015 flew by. Here we are having celebrated the arrival of 2016.

Often the start of a new year brings changes in our lives. That’s also the case this year with Chapter G. Our Assistant chapter directors, Art and Pat Kuenstler, and chapter educator, Dick Choyke, have stepped down. Sharon and I want to express our sincere thanks to all three for the wonderful support we’ve gotten from them over the past two years. We couldn’t have done it without them.

Fortunately, we’ve had other members step forward to pick up the load. We’re happy to announce that Mike Stockinger is the new ACD and Bob and Ginny Schattschneider are the chapter educators. We really appreciate the way they’ve jumped in to help both us and the whole chapter. We’re looking forward to working with them to make chapter life even better than it is already.

It’s been a little surprising how much warmer this winter has been so far compared to the previous couple of years. I even had the bike out a few times in December which certainly wasn’t possible the past few winters. Hope some of you have had the chance to take advantage of some bonus time on the bike too.

We’re getting back into the swing of things with the chapter after taking some time off for the holiday season. We’ll be back to ROMEO breakfast rides, dinner rides and regular monthly socials from now on. (Please see the information above and, as always, we have our events listed on the calendar attached to the chapter website.)

We’re hoping to make our February social a special day again in 2016. We will have a seminar presented and join in a chili dump, which has become sort of tradition with our February socials the last few years. There will be more information on this later, both via emails and on the chapter website.

We really would like to see you all at a breakfast ride, a dinner ride, and the chapter social this month. We’re looking forward to another year of great fun and fellowship with our whole chapter G family.
